The so-called C64C was a real C64, but not in the usual "breadbin" box, but a new fancy case made in the style of the Commodore 128. From a case point of view it looked more modern - but was a deviation from the "original". The board was improved as well, for example the video output was made better - but the sound suffered because of slight changes in the SID chip. So some people are moving boards from breadbin to the new case, and others do vice versa [1]
New cases, however, were not to be had - until now! Dallas Moore found some injection molds at a business liquidation sale. Those are heavy metal forms where hot, molten plastics is injected and then "freezes" into the form of the inner cavity. Then both parts of the mold are opened and out comes the finished part.
Now imagine the surprise when after closer inspection these molds turned out to be original case molds for the C64C case! [2]
And even better, Dalles has decided to share his find with us - by setting up a kickstarter where you can buy a brand new C64C case for your board! Well - the colours may not be your favourite, as they will be available in bright red, blue or white - but they will be original, and very limited.
It has already reached the minimum goal of $10.000, but there are still places left to back it up in exchange for a new case!
